Several edlinks from the past few days:
Tennessee department of education comes out with a report on bullying last year, reporting 5,478 confirmed cases. MCS/SCS makes up over one fifth of all cases in the state.
Michael Kelley at the Commercial appeal reports on TFA and the organization’s work to make Memphis a destination rather than a stopover on their career path. Full disclosure, I am a Teach for America alumni. Either way, these numbers are encouraging:
Of 440 alumni of the TFA Memphis corps, about 200 are still teaching somewhere — about 100 in Memphis. The organization’s figures also show that 77 percent of Memphis alumni continue to work in education somewhere, 40 percent continue to live here, and 36 percent continue to live and work in education in Memphis.
Chalkbeat reports that that Shelby County is considering dropping their lawsuit, centered on the idea that the separation would constitute resegregation. Keep an eye on the commission:
The Shelby County commission could vote on whether to drop the lawsuit at its next meeting this Monday, Oct. 28. That meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m at 160 N. Main Street in Memphis.
Smart City Memphis looks back on its previous coverage of municipal schools, point out the thinly veiled racial motivations driving the Germantown district. Worth a read if you want to catch up on municipal districts and where everything currently stands.
