One of BCE’s goals going forward is to not only promote the teacher voice through out site but through other leadership opportunities around the state and country. We’ll be posting Teacher Leadership Opportunities from time to time under the tage “teacher leadership.” Here’s our first, from the Tennessee Department of Education:
The Tennessee Department of Education is assembling a STEM Leadership Council to support the growth of STEM education by providing guidance and feedback on STEM-related statewide and regional initiatives and approaches as reflected in the Governor’s vision for STEM in Tennessee. The STEM Leadership Council will also be responsible for developing and facilitating STEM trainings, professional development, and teacher externships, as well as participation in conference calls and quarterly in-person meetings.
The STEM Leadership Council will be composed of 18 individuals from industry, postsecondary, and K-12 education (teachers, coaches, and administrators). Individuals serving on this council must commit to a two-year term and have expertise in a STEM field. If selected to serve on the council, members will be compensated with a stipend to cover quarterly meeting attendance, curriculum and initiative review and feedback, participation at trainings and events, and travel reimbursement for a total of $10,000 for full participation.
If interested, please complete the attached application (here), compose a letter of intent (in 500 words or less, explain why you would like to be a member and what challenges to STEM education you hope to address), and review and initial the attached STEM Leadership Council Member Requirement document (here). Include all signatures and send all three documents, via email, fax, or physical mail, to the address below by April 7th, 2014
