At Bluff City Education, we aspire to be a voice for teachers but also to provide a roundup of news stories on education policy as it impacts educators, parents and Students in Tennessee.  To contribute to that second mission, there’s a new voice in Tennessee, Chalkbeat Tennessee.  Their mission is straightforward:

A little about Chalkbeat:

Chalkbeat is a nonprofit news organization created by journalists who believe that an independent local press is vital to ensuring that education improves.

Our reporters work in four bureaus across the country — New York, Colorado, Tennessee, and Indiana. Every day, we tell the story of educational change, focusing on the low-income communities that have the most at stake.

In many ways, our journalism is traditional. We do not take a position on the complex changes happening in education. Instead, we try our best to report faithfully on events as they happen — the good, bad, and (just as often) mixed. We are fierce believers in the power of context. We add it whenever we can.

We’re also creatures of the digital age. We don’t publish a print edition, and as a nonprofit, our business model is unconventional — a mix of philanthropic donations and revenue generated from sponsorships and our jobsboard. Our reporting appear on our websites, and also on Twitter, Facebook, and the news sites of our partners in the press.
